Healthcare's Digital Evolution Strains IT Infrastructure
Healthcare is evolving and medical imaging devices are reaching ever higher levels of precision. Computerized Tomography (CT) scanners, for example, have upgraded from a single row of detectors to 640. Combined with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) 3.0 technology, over 10,000 files are now produced in a single check.
Elsewhere, multi-Disciplinary Treatment (MDT) collaboration, intelligent auxiliary diagnosis, intelligent quality control, and intelligent preoperative planning — all based on medical imaging — are accelerating the standardized clinical application of new medical technologies, as well as helping to transform medical scientific research. As a result, the need to share medical imaging data has exploded.
So Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) now need to work across departments, with patient-centric clinical and multimodal research data integrated to support medical Research and Development (R&D) and hospital services.
In short, such developments clearly present new challenges for hospital Information Technology (IT) infrastructure construction.
High Requirements on Retrieval Performance
The number of imaging files generated in a single check has increased from hundreds to tens of thousands. As a result, retrieval waiting times for traditional infrastructure have increased from seconds to minutes, reducing diagnostic efficiency.
